Background: Crowley and Aziraphale have traded jobs for the day, and James (Scruffington version) is busy being drunk in Tortuga.  So our story begins...


Intervention

“Tabula Rasa.”
The piece of blank slate was shoved into his hands with enough force to overbalance him – not hard, considering the amount of rum he’d consumed lately while contemplating his newly meaningless existence, but hard enough.  James took a moment to be thankful that the ground was mostly mud, and therefore didn’t hurt when he collided with it.
The stranger regarded him as if he were a particularly stupid species of earthworm.  “Yes, you screwed up,” he said shortly.  “Start again.”  It’s not that easy, James thought.
“Yes it is,” the stranger answered.  And vanished.
Nice cheekbones, James decided, and settled deeper into his mud.

I'm wondering, myself. I'd say tempting Sparrow, if it wasn't for the fact that Sparrow's about as tempted as he can be already, and likely wouldn't even notice the corrupting influence.

I wanted, vividly, to break a blank slate over James' head and tell him to get his act together. He was doing angst, you see, and not thinking. And I wanted a crossover. Ergo, fic.

3 and a half, then. I read Hornblower-fic when someone I know writes it, (or crossovers) but otherwise avoid it on the theory that too many more fandoms and my head will explode.
