Title:Dancing
Author: [personal profile] order_of_chaos
Summary: A Sparrington interpretation of Jack's escape at the end of Curse of the Black Pearl, as inspired by the one-sentenced stories of Gloria Mundi, which I found and read and loved somewhere on [livejournal.com profile] sparrington, combined with my love of long sentences and of Jack'n'James. Written before the sequel-movies existed.

Jack moves as if he is dancing, constant motion in the tilt of his head and bird-wing flutter of his hands, enthralled this time by a glimpse of angry green eyes, intrigued to the point where he finds himself stepping closer, casually careless of the other's personal space, until he can see them clearly - it's easier than it should have been to get this close, because the man is heartbroken and not fighting back, not now - a shattered expression hidden far too deep in those sea-storm eyes tells Jack that he did does love her, truly, though many assumed he didn't; her among them Jack thinks, with a hint of bitterness (or is it envy) for everything it is too late to tell her - and Jack forces himself look but don't touch you'll break him to maintain that fraction of a distance between them, his mouth opening involuntarily to offer words of - not comfort, nothing could be that - "I want you to know, I was rooting for you mate, know that..." allegiance maybe, for all that is a ridiculous thing for a pirate to offer a Commodore of the British Royal Navy who will not recognise it anyway - and just as well, Jack reflects, tearing his eyes away and moving on and - as his hands say with a gesture stay there don't chase me don't trap me - he breaks the spell by force and turns to farewell, in his own way, two new friends who have been far truer than he ever expected... or deserved, perhaps, but no-one can say that friendship has to make sense and it really is a beautiful hat - the dashing prince-charming look suits Will, and Elizabeth is so fun to tease, who could resist... except the lovely person with the pretty pretty green eyes, of course, because he needs practice laughing and may have forgotten how - Jack knows how - the pirate could teach the Commodore - and he proves it, dancing on the edge of a wall and falling off too soon, surfacing in the sea with a flashing golden grin and striking out for his ship.
