I am convinced Jack Sparrow is a rogue Jedi, not a padawan or Sith.

1. Standing orders were to 'avoid him if at all possible', but as Jedi-knight James Norrington was discovering to his chagrin and growing frustrastion, it appeared that it wasn't.
2. When he was a boy growing up in the temple, the Jedi called him their little bird. Alternately, his teachers adored him and despaired of ever teaching him the dignity appropriate for a Jedi.
