Title: El Quinto Sol.

For:
meletor_et_al, for the picture-promt drabble meme. "Whatever jumps at you. Have fun."
Rating: PG
AN: ...upon which, the author realised that she really didn't know how to use pictures as prompts, and would have to make it up as she went along, but that she liked this picture very much indeed. Had fun, hope you like it.
***
The first time he saw the painting he just stared at it, letting it soak into his blood and burn. His mind slid down circles and around curves to tangle in the netted schemes of the background. Light to dark to light again. Pretty. You could get drunk just by standing too close to it, trying to shape your mind into something that might be able to understand it. Or might not, even then.
Later, it reminded him of the desert, and then the sun, and broken trellises. He didn't know why, and he didn't care. It was just broken enough, just crazy enough, and just beautiful enough to belong in this world.
He didn't kill the artist, but the picture was stolen seven days later. They searched, but…
They never did find out who took it.
