Title: Never, without you.
Author:
order_of_chaos
Pairing: Sparrington.
For:
jedipirate. For the picture-prompt drabble-meme.
Summary: Angst. Or perhaps it's just fluff in disguise. (No, it's angst.)
Never, without you.
It's the sort of broken you don't want to see on anyone - not an enemy, not a friend, and certainly never a lover.
James didn't turn as Jack approached; as if it wasn't worth the effort to see who had entered. As if he didn't care.
The wounds - Jack studied them with forced objectivity - weren't so bad. Nasty - the man had been whipped cruelly, and there was no way those didn't hurt like hell - but endurable. And James was good at enduring. He shouldn't be like this.
It was James spirit - the fierce, tempered fire that ran beneath his every action - that was missing; as if it had been burnt away to nothing but ashes.
Jack found his voice with an effort. "James?"
"They told me you were dead," James said slowly, not turning. "Are you not so?"
Jack moved forward at that, clasping James' shoulders and turning him to face him. "No," he promised. "Not without you, love. Never, without you."
James smiled finally, heartbreakingly, and fainted.
