Sparrington:
I remember watching PotC for the first time, over a year ago but after it had come out on DVD.  And there was Norrington (whose name I didn't find out until hunting through the fandom) saying "I intend to see to it that any man who wears a pirate brand or sails under a pirate flag gets what he deserves - a short drop and a sudden stop."  And I thought to myself, there will be a pirate in this, and this man will be in love with him.  Then I promptly forgot all about the Commodore and watched the pretty, shiny Will/Elizabeth and the Captain Jack Sparrow for the rest of the movie. 
And then I found the fandom.  Bounced through a few really, truly bad Jack/Will fics on fanfiction.net, and felt irritated because the Will/Elizabeth was the whole foundation of the movie, then found Webcrowmancer's site (which has since vanished), and many, many brilliant Sparringtons and recs of Sparringtons.  Then I found livejournal and the Sparrington community, lurked for weeks, eventually got myself a journal, and never left.  All other fandoms or pairings I will wander through, but Sparrington is home. 

Harry/Voldemort:
Short answer:  I read Abandon.
I discovered slash via Harry/Draco.  I'd read something where they ended up friends, thought to myself, yay, friendship and went looking for more.  Consequences of that are obvious.  Very soon, drifted from Harry/Draco to Harry/Severus via Mirror of Maybe.  This remained my OTP for ages, before I drifted out of the fandom.  And the next time I drifted through it - see short answer.  I've always adored the villains, and people on opposite sides learning to get along.

And now I'm too lazy to finish this.  Zzzzz.

Your Sparrington description almost made me sniffle. *wipes crocodile tear from cheek* So wonderful. And so true.

It was different with me, since I knew the fandom before I knew the movie, but if I had watched the movie without any previous knowledge, I surely would have had your thoughts about it. o_O

Oh, your description of Sparrington is lovely. You really realised it in a precognitive way that these two are destined to be with each other. Yesh. And I'm glad you never left.
